Accessibility Statement for AussieShots Academy
AussieShots Academy is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for everyone. We are continually improving the user experience for all visitors and strive to adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as our standard.
Our Commitment
We believe that websites should be accessible to individuals with disabilities, and we are dedicated to making our website as user-friendly as possible for everyone, regardless of technology or ability. Our ongoing efforts include regular accessibility audits, user testing with assistive technologies, and training for our content creators and developers.
Conformance Status
The WCAG defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. AussieShots Academy is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.
Accessibility Features
- Keyboard Navigation: Our website is designed to be fully navigable using a keyboard alone. Users can access all interactive elements, including links, buttons, and form fields, using the Tab key to move forward and Shift+Tab to move backward. Clear focus indicators are provided to highlight the currently selected element.
- Screen Reader Compatibility: We have taken steps to ensure that our website is compatible with popular screen readers, such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver. Semantic HTML5 markup is used to provide a clear structure for screen readers to interpret. ARIA attributes are used where necessary to enhance the accessibility of dynamic content and interactive elements.
- Alternative Text for Images: All images on our website are accompanied by descriptive alternative text (alt text) that conveys the content and function of the image to users who are unable to see them. This includes descriptive text for purely decorative images to ensure screen readers can ignore them. For example, our instructor headshots have alt text that says "Headshot of [Instructor Name], a photography instructor".
- Color Contrast: We have carefully selected color palettes to ensure sufficient contrast between text and background colors. Our design adheres to WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast requirements, making it easier for users with low vision or color blindness to read and understand the content. For instance, the text color #FFFFFF (White) on the background color #1E293B (Midnight Blue) provides excellent contrast.
- Scalable Text: Users can easily adjust the text size on our website without loss of content or functionality. The website is designed to reflow content and maintain readability at different text sizes. This can typically be achieved using browser settings or keyboard shortcuts (e.g., Ctrl/Cmd + "+" to zoom in, Ctrl/Cmd + "-" to zoom out).
- Clear and Consistent Navigation: Our website features a clear and consistent navigation structure, making it easy for users to find the information they need. The main navigation menu is located at the top of each page and provides direct access to key sections of the site.
- Form Accessibility: All form fields are properly labeled and include clear instructions to assist users in completing the form. Error messages are displayed in a clear and accessible manner. ARIA attributes are used to provide additional context and guidance to screen reader users.
- Video Accessibility: Where applicable, videos on our website include captions or transcripts to make them accessible to users who are deaf or hard of hearing. Audio descriptions are provided for videos that contain important visual information.
